Amex and Chase points for Japan's luxury hotels

US American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards points can become hotel points with the chains in our database. Here is which bank reaches which chain, at what rate, and which of our Japan hotels you can then book.

Before you transfer

  • Find the award night first on the chain's own site and note the price for your dates. Transfers can't be reversed, so move only what you need.
  • Chase's Hyatt rate is now 4:3. A Hyatt award that costs 30,000 points needs 40,000 Ultimate Rewards points.
  • Hilton is the only chain here where Amex points multiply (1,000 become 2,000). Compare how many bank points each award needs, not the hotel points.
  • Award bookings made with the chain count as direct bookings. What elite members get on top differs by hotel, so check the hotel's page here for breakfast, lounge and upgrade reports.
